Cherryvale Shoulders and Overlay Project - Baseline To Arapahoe

Project Overview

Construction on the Cherryvale Road Shoulders project is scheduled to begin the week of June 13, 2011. Residents and motorists should expect significant delays, uneven pavement and on-going roadwork along Cherryvale Road from June 13 through Labor Day weekend.

Construction updates from the County are available by emailing tswope@bouldercounty.org.

As currently designed, the project will:

  • Widen the roadway approximately six feet to improve safety and accessibility for bicycles and pedestrians;
  • replace road culverts to improve drainage;
  • construct a soft surface pedestrian path on the west side of Cherryvale between Reserve Drive and Arapahoe Road;
  • re-construct and overlay the road between Baseline Road and Arapahoe Road;
  • re-stripe the road to provide five foot bikeable shoulders.  No new thru-lanes or turn-lanes are planned.
  • Repave Dimmit Road from Cherryvale Road to Gaptor Road and add a turn restriction to the intersection of Gaptor and Dimmit.

The final result will be a reconstructed road with 10 foot travel lanes, five foot shoulders, and a six foot pedestrian path between Arapahoe and Reserve Drive.

Estimated Timeline

Public Involvement

The county has conducted two public open houses for review and comment on the project's conceptual designs.

  • April 2009 - Staff presented the preliminary plan.  Concerns focused on the potential impacts of the project on speed and traffic and the need for sidewalks.
  • November 17, 2009 - Staff presented a revised plan, featuring a slight realignment, additional traffic calming devices, and a realigned intersection and stop sign at Simmons Drive.  Comments included concerns of the stop sign and traffic islands and the aesthetic impact of concrete sidewalks.
