Lee Hill Drive and Deer Trail Road Reconstruction Project

Lee Hill Drive/Deer Trail Road Reconstruction Project

Project Background

Boulder County Transportation is planning to reconstruct Lee Hill Drive from Olde Stage Road to Deer Trail Road and Deer Trail Road from Lee Hill Drive to the end of pavement.

The project, as currently planned, will have two phases:

Phase I – June 2018 to October/November 2018

  • Culvert Replacement at Six Mile Creek/Reed’s Corner – Boulder County Road Maintenance will replace a large culvert that carries Six Mile Creek under Lee Hill Drive.
  • To safely accommodate the culvert work, Lee Hill Drive will be closed to all traffic (bikes and vehicles) at the construction location (3250 Lee Hill Drive aka “Reed’s Corner” – see image below). Closure details:
    • ROAD CLOSED (bikes and cars) 24 hours a day from 7 a.m. on Mondays (starting June 25) to 6 p.m. on Thursdays.
      • Road will be in single lane configuration controlled by a traffic signal outside of work/closure hours.
    • ROAD OPEN from 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 28 through 7 a.m. on Monday, July 9 in observation of the Independence Day holiday
    • (view the detour plan)
    • Emergency services personnel have been informed and will be granted immediate access around the work zone at all times.
  • Concrete Drainage Pan Installation – A contractor will install 1,000 feet of concrete curb and gutter between Olde Stage Road and “Windy Point” to protect the pavement from water runoff and rock falls. The area between the concrete curb and edge of the travel lane will be paved, which will create a paved shoulder that improves safety for all roadway users.
    • This work is not scheduled to start until the fall/winter of 2018
    • Travel impacts are not yet known. More info will be posted here.

Phase II – Summer 2019

  • Lee Hill Drive Repaving – Lee Hill Drive has not be repaved in over 20 years. Paving will take place between Olde Stage Road and Deer Trail Drive.
  • Deer Trail Drive Repaving – Deer Trail was first paved in 1982 during the development of the Boulder Heights subdivision, and its condition has severely deteriorated. The work will require reconstruction of most of the roadway. This work is funded by the county’s subdivision paving program.
  • Guardrail Replacement – All guardrail along Lee Hill and Deer Trail drives will be replaced and brought up to current standards.

Construction Schedule

This is a large, multifaceted and phased project that is anticipated to take place over two years – June 11, 2018 to June 2020.

Public Meetings

An open house was held on May 22, 2018 to discuss the project and travel impacts – Meeting Exhibits
