Lee Hill Drive and Deer Trail Road Reconstruction Project

Lee Hill Drive/Deer Trail Road Reconstruction Project

Project Background

Boulder County Transportation is planning to reconstruct Lee Hill Drive from Olde Stage Road to Deer Trail Road and Deer Trail Road from Lee Hill Drive to the end of pavement.

Project Announcements: Phase I – Completed 2018

Phase II – Underdway

  • Phase II Work
    • Lee Hill Drive Repaving – Lee Hill Drive has not be repaved in over 20 years. Paving will take place between Olde Stage Road and Deer Trail Drive.
    • Deer Trail Drive Repaving – Deer Trail was first paved in 1982 during the development of the Boulder Heights subdivision, and its condition has severely deteriorated. The work will require reconstruction of most of the roadway. This work is funded by the county’s subdivision paving program.
    • Guardrail Replacement – Guardrail along Lee Hill and Deer Trail drives will be replaced and brought up to current standards.

Phase II Construction Schedule and Travel Impacts – ROAD CLOSURES START JULY 29, 2019

  • July 29 to end of October 2019 – Daytime/Weekday Travel Restrictions for Motor Vehicles – 24/7 closures for bicycles
    • ROAD CLOSED to all travel at Olde Stage on the east side and Lefthand Canyon Drive on the west side
      • Residential traffic will be allowed from the Lefthand Canyon Drive side of Lee Hill Drive
      • 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Monday through Fri
      • SEE MAP
    • Traffic signal in place after working hours
    • NO CYCLING AT ANY TIME ON LEE HILL between Olde Stage Road and Deer Trail Road
      • Road will be in a single-lane configuration for approximately 1/2 mile of road with significant grade, which would force a 20-minute or more traffic light signal for cyclists traveling uphill to safely clear the zone.
    • Actual closure location will be just west of Olde Stage Road (Windy Point)
      • SEE MAP
      • Boulder Heights residents will need to follow the detour to Lefthand Canyon Drive to access their homes
    • Crews need to construct a large concrete structure (moment slab) underneath the downhill lane on Lee Hill Drive. This is what the guardrail will be attached to. There is no possible way build this feature without closing the road to all users as the location is too narrow for construction equipment and the work zone.
