Academic Tutor for Aspinwall Community

Time Commitment & Minimum Age: Must be 18 years of age or older and Two hours per week, on one afternoon Monday-Friday, according to the BVSD academic calendar. Tutors are asked to commit to at least one semester (August-December, January-May).

Program Summary:

Aspinwall is an inclusive, multi-generational, supportive housing community located in Lafayette. Aspinwall’s Community Center is a space that inspires learning through educational opportunities, positive relationships, and community support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Promote and support math, literacy, other content areas, including access to higher education, by tutoring elementary, middle, and high school students through homework support and positive community relationships.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, pass a criminal background check, and have their own transportation or public transportation to the Aspinwall Community Center. Excellent volunteers demonstrate cultural sensitivity, patience, and enthusiasm for learning and community. Experience in education is beneficial, but not required. Volunteers must commit to at least two hours a day, once a week.

Training Dates and Information:

Volunteers may start at any time, though key start dates are near the beginning of each semester (August and January).
