Boulder County Justice Center and possibly doing outreach at senior adult residential communities in Boulder County if interested.

Program Summary:

This division of the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office mediates consumer complaints which cover a wide variety of problems encountered by consumers including landlord/tenant disputes, business complaints, elder abuse and fraud.

The staff and volunteers answer phones, emails and attend to residents complaints of business practices that affect them adversely. They attempt to negotiate for fair settlements between consumers and business to keep the issues out of court.

Mature, critical-thinking, tactful, independent researchers are desired as long-term volunteers in this position to help resolve issues. Volunteers represent the DA’s office and require diplomacy equal to the office. Outreach aspects of this position include keeping the Boulder County elder community updated on scams and how to avoid being victimized.

Duties and Responsibilities:

There are several positions in this program:
1. After significant hands-on and individual training, respond to phone and email complaints from residents and work to resolve issues over time. One year minimum requirement.
2. Distribute Community Protection updates and fliers to local senior centers and retirement communities. 9 months minimum requirement.
3. Outreach- Talk with community members about latest information and how to access services in the county pertaining to consumer affairs. One year minimum requirement.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Must be 21 years old to apply.

Interest in research, law, consumer affairs, elder abuse/fraud or business practices is desirable but not required.
You are mature, unflappable, calm and diplomatic. You have either a morning or afternoon Monday – Friday available for at least a 4 hour shift, preferably two shifts.
You can make a one-year volunteer commitment after training. You have the aptitude to be trained to accurately, patiently and succinctly communicate information, representing the DA’s office to residents of the county.
A desire to keep Boulder County consumers, elders and others safe.

Enjoy working as part of a team.
A criminal background check is required.

Training Dates and Information:

Hands-on intensive individual training is provided along with an orientation. On-the-job training with district attorney staff and attorneys, and resource books will be provided.
