Casa de la Esperanza Learning Center, 1520 South Emery Street, Longmont, CO 80501 (southeast corner of Hwy 287 and Pike Road)

Program Summary:

Casa de la Esperanza’s educational center is a state of the art learning center providing opportunities and resources to serve the 100+ children and youth of migrant farm workers living on site. Breaking Barriers is an intensive, two-week program aimed at improving reading and writing ability for elementary-aged youth. Examples of activities include hand-on projects, science experiments, book discussions and field trips.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Co-lead the Breaking Barriers literacy program
  • Design and implement lessons
  • Keep children engaged and focused on the task
  • Distribute snacks
  • Keep the space clean and tidy
  • Help to transport and chaperone children to off-site programs
Qualifications and Requirements:

Aged 21 or older, own transportation and ability to be cleared to help transport youth. Volunteers must be able to attend every day (excepting an emergency, etc.). Must complete Mandated Reporter Training and pass a background check.

Additional Information:

Bilingual (Spanish & English) a plus; experience in education and working with youth and immigrant populations beneficial.
