INTERN: Family Support and Life Skills Worker Intern on the Family Integration Team

Time Commitment & Minimum Age: MSW or BSW students wanted for a minimum 4 month commitment with the opportunity to extend as agreed upon with a commitment of 15-30 hours per week. A weekly schedule will be established based on the needs of the intern and program.

Based out of 515 Coffman, Longmont, CO

Program Summary:

To develop a broad understanding of the Colorado Child Welfare system and Boulder County Department of Housing & Human Services programs. To develop an understanding of the importance of Family Visitation and Parent Coaching when children are in foster care. To develop an understanding of the role of the Life Skills program in keeping families together when placement of children is at risk.

Duties and Responsibilities:

To assist family support and life skill workers with case duties, including attending home visits with families, transportation of children to and from family visits, monitoring supervised visitation, documenting visitation, attending department and team meetings, attending court, and helping to connect families to resources. To support/manage a minimum of one visitation case.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Seeking an individual with strong interpersonal skills, including being able to work with diverse staff and clients. The candidate should have good time management, prioritization, and organizational skills. Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as basic computer skills are necessary. A valid Colorado Driver’s License is necessary.

  • Willingness to join a busy, dedicated team of professionals
Training Dates and Information:

On-the-job training is provided during the first month of the internship, and ongoing as needed. Additionally, several in-house trainings on various topics related to child welfare and case work practice are provided throughout the year by HHS, and student interns are welcome to participate.
