Duties and Responsibilities:

Volunteers will work with children from multiple Head Start classrooms and their siblings during an evening meeting. Age ranges of the children may span infant to school-age children. Weather permitting, children may use the playground and the fully stocked classroom. Sample materials available include: blocks, puzzles, books, paper and crayons, and pretend play materials. Volunteers may be asked by staff to work with one child or a group of children. Volunteers may work in one area, or with one activity, or volunteers may rotate around the room to the areas with the most need. Volunteers help staff clean up the classroom at the end of the meeting, e.g., clean the tables, sweep the floor, take out trash/recycling/compost, etc.

Training Dates and Information:

On-site staff provides orientation and site specific volunteer training including on-the-job training.

This position will be supervised by the Head Start staff on duty during your volunteer time.

Additional Information:

There are many reasons a person may volunteer with Head Start. Many volunteers choose us because they like to play with children and give back to the community in a meaningful and creative way. Others join us to gain experience working with children. All volunteers are bound by one unifying idea; they want to make a difference in the life of a child. We value your time and contribution to our program.
