Program Summary:

The GENESIS Program at Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) provides case management services to pregnant and parenting teens in Boulder County. Pregnant clients under the age of 20 are eligible for services until their child reaches 3 years of age. BCPH staff provides education, referrals, linkage to services, advocacy, and clinical assessments to optimize positive birth outcomes and parenting practices for teen moms and their families.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Description of Work: GENESIS R&R is a subsection of the GENESIS Program, created to reach women experiencing high levels of unpleasant feelings associated with the stresses and anxieties of being a young mother. This group is focused on finding healthy coping strategies and relaxation techniques while building interpersonal relationships among the mothers. This volunteer position will attend one or two sessions (depending upon need) to teach the young mothers how to knit and/or crochet and providing them with the means for a physical outlet. Groups are held every other Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Teach pregnant and parenting teens how to knit and/or crochet.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education: No minimum requirements.

Experience:
• Extensive knitting and/or crocheting experience.
• Experience teaching knitting and/or crocheting is preferred.
• Experience working with teenagers is a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear instruction.
• Ability to teach knitting and/or crochet effectively to the client population.
• Must possess a warm, friendly, and positive attitude towards clients.
• Must be culturally responsive with the ability to work with a diverse client population in an inclusive and nonjudgmental fashion.
• Knowledge of teen parent developmental issues.
• Ability to work effectively on a team, as well as independently.
• Ability to be self-directed, motivated, and dependable.

Special Requirements:
• Must submit immunization history form and immunization documentation. Some immunizations and/or tuberculosis (TB) tests may be required (at the expense of BCPH), and volunteer/intern must comply with these requirements prior to start date.
• Must agree to submit to and clear applicable background checks.
