Native Seed Collection
|Project Date:||Sat, October 21, 2017 10:00 am - 1:00 pm|
|Opportunity Type:||One-Time Volunteer Opportunity|
|Department:||Parks & Open Space|
|Category:||Open Space, Environment, and Gardening|
Using native seeds in re-vegetation efforts is essential to restoring native plant diversity. Often times, however, native seeds are not available commercially, they are expensive, or the available seeds are not ecologically appropriate.
Volunteers will help Boulder County restore disturbed lands by hand-collecting a variety of species, including grasses, sedges, wildflowers and shrubs. Local botanists will work on-site and provide identification of wildflowers and other native plants during the project.
Staff continuously monitors seed development at a variety of open space areas, so the exact location of projects will be determined about four days before the project date.
Minimum age is 6 with adult supervision.
Registration is required through Discover Boulder County, Parks & Open Space’s new volunteer and event registration system. If you’re new to the system, you’ll need to create an account. But it’s easy and we only use your contact information to communicate about events you register for. We will never sell or give your information to a third party.
