Program Summary: | Volunteers, once trained, are paired one-on-one with older adults who either live alone or with a family caregiver. During weekly two-hour visits, they provide friendship, reassurance and companion level assistance with activities such as conversation, reading, shopping and social outings. No hands-on care required. If the older adult lives with a caregiver, these visits enable that person to take a much-needed break (respite). Duties and Responsibilities: | Successful completion of 3 hour training; on-going weekly visits with an elder, and a minimum 6 month commitment. |
Qualifications and Requirements: | Men and women 21 years and up who are compassionate, open-minded, and interested in spending time with an older adult; will submit to a background check, and can make a 6- month commitment. Must be at least 21 to apply. |
Training Dates and Information: | Trainings are held about every 7 weeks throughout the year in alternating locations within the county. |
