Program Summary:

The Jail Education and Transition Program (JET) serves male and female offenders sentenced to the Boulder County Jail. The goal of the program is lowered recidivism and increased public safety when JET graduates are released. We are currently seeking an Assistant to help organize and coordinate special projects like backpacks for those who will be released, organizing supplies, data entry, etc.
The JET program is selective; those approved for enrollment are offered cognitive-behavioral and evidence-based courses and life skills training. Classes in the Women’s Program are offered three to four times a week for groups of 7-15 women. Some general courses include substance abuse education, anger management, GED preparation and life-skills training. There is currently a need for an assistant to help with organizing and fulfilling the homeless backpack project for which clothing and hygiene products are now being collected. Other tasks like data entry or organizing supplies can be discussed with staff once vetted.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with J.E.T. staff members on ad hoc projects, stuffing backpacks, collecting and folding gently used clothing for people upon their release, updating information (data entry) and organizing materials for classes. Other duties will be defined by your interests and the needs of staff.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Must be 21 years old to apply.
Prefer basic knowledge of and interest in the criminal justice system.

9 month minimum commitment, 4-8 hours per week as needed.
Physical ability to occasionally lift up to 20 lbs., and sit at a computer.
Understanding and respect for jail protocols and procedures.
Background check and fingerprinting at the Justice Center are required.
A 3 hour Jail Safety Training will be scheduled for you once you are successfully through the application process.

Training Dates and Information:

On the job training. Jail Safety Orientation occurs infrequently so will be scheduled by the supervisor.
