The Senior Tax Worker Program is an opportunity for seniors 60 years or older to earn money equivalent to the Boulder County-designated portion of their property taxes up to $1,000.* Seniors must own property in Boulder County and live at the location where the taxes are due.
*Note: Due to COVID-19 , the county has suspended the program until at least the end of the second quarter of 2021. (This timeline is fluid depending on the status of the pandemic.) You are welcome to apply in the interim (up until June 15), and your application will be considered later this spring as the county reopens many of its in-person services to the public.
The 2021 application deadline is June 15.
How the Program Works
Senior property owners are hired as temporary workers for the county earning $12.32 per hour. Participants are eligible to earn between $240 and $1,000, based on the Boulder County portion of their property tax bill.
The Commissioners’ Office and the hiring department each contribute to the salary. The tax worker receives a monthly paycheck for all hours worked. Social Security and Public Employee Retirement Association (PERA) are deducted from this monthly paycheck. Wages earned are paid directly to the senior tax worker; all participants in the program are still responsible for paying their property taxes by the due date(s).
